Project Brief
The Carnegie Council’s Ethics Accelerator Program regularly hosts a convening of experts to discuss emerging ethical issues around technology. Schema created a visual narrative pertaining to the first accelerator topic, Data Fusion and Surveillance. Working closely with the Council, Schema designed and built a website with interactive and participatory elements that explain data fusion to a general audience and examine the socio-cultural consequences of this technology. The core experience consists of an animated Sankey diagram based on a visual metaphor of bubbles representing individual data points fusing together to form powerful inferences about citizens and their actions. This visual metaphor guides viewers through the narrative arc and helps create a 360 degree understanding of Data Fusion with all of its dimensions and implications for the world today.
